Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It’s Tuesday 12th April, it’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

LUCID ANNOUNCES NEW LUCID AIR GRAND TOURING PERFORMANCE MODEL WITH 1,050 HORSEPOWER

- New Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance delivers 1,050 horsepower, accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds

- Lucid Air Grand Touring customer deliveries already in progress; deliveries of new Grand Touring Performance model begin June 2022

- With 1,050 horsepower, the dual-motor Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance is the most powerful electric vehicle currently available in North America – and with an EPA-estimated driving range of 446 miles, still more than any other brands’ electric vehicles

- It will have an MSRP of $179,000

- In Canada, the Air Grand Touring Performance will be priced at $242,000 CAD (before taxes), with deliveries beginning in August 2022.

- Ultra-fast 900V+ charging system, enabling users to add up to 300 miles in 21 minutes at a 350 kW DC fast charger, as demonstrated in recent independent media tests

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: ELECTRIC VEHICLES, NOT LUXURY CARS, DOMINATE

- the New York International Auto Show will open to the public on Friday, April 15, at Manhattan’s Javits Center and will run through April 24

- The format is more compelling than in years past, given the supply chain crisis that has severely delayed deliveries to dealerships, not to mention markups as high as $100,000 over manufacturer's suggested retail price for luxury cars and SUVs.

- “Auto shows are still highly relevant in the same way that dealerships are still highly relevant,” says Erin Kerrigan, founder and managing director of Kerrigan Advisors, a consulting firm. “Consumers still like to touch and feel a new car before they purchase it.”

- F-150 Lightning, revealed via video feed almost a year ago, will appear just weeks before its first deliveries.

- Chevrolet Silverado EV, a rig first unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. It’s not due out until 2023, so expect GM to pull out all the stops to pique interest

- Hyundai Motor Co. may present one of the show’s few surprises. The company promises to unveil a new production vehicle

AUTO INDUSTRY LEADERS LAY OUT PLAN FOR MASS ELECTRIFICATION AT THE 2022 NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

- The upcoming New York International Auto Show will feature a press conference to officially open the largest indoor EV Test Track ever constructed at the Show covering nearly 250,000 sq. ft. and featuring a wide range of electric vehicles for attendees to experience. Speakers at the event include leaders from the automobile industry, dealer associations, government agencies and utility companies laying out plans for mass EV adoption and electrification.

- Members of the media and Show attendees will have the opportunity to take a ride in a range of EVs from Chevrolet, Kia, Nissan, Volkswagen, Volvo, INDI EV and VinFast. In addition to the multi-brand EV Test Track, Ford and Hyundai will each feature indoor EV tracks as part of their main Level 3 Auto Show exhibits.

JAPANESE CAR GIANT HONDA TARGETS EV EXPANSION, EARMARKS BILLIONS FOR R&D

- Honda plans to invest around 5 trillion yen ($39.9 billion) in electrification and software technologies over the next 10 years, with the Japanese automotive giant aiming to launch 30 electric vehicle models worldwide by 2030.

- In a statement Tuesday, the company said approximately 3.5 trillion yen would go toward research and development expenses, with 1.5 trillion yen focused on investments.

- Honda said it would target an EV production volume of over 2 million units per year in 2030

- Honda said it would look to set up what it called a “dedicated EV plant” in the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Wuhan.

- last week, Honda and GM announced they would develop a series of affordable electric vehicles based on a new global platform.

HONDA HOPES YOU'LL FORGET ABOUT TESLA WITH $40 BILLION EV INVESTMENT

- Additionally, somewhere around $345 million will be put toward the first demonstration round of new solid state batteries by 2024. Honda has previously stated they would phase out all non-EV cars in the North America market by 2040.

HONDA TO LAUNCH 30 EV MODELS BY 2030

- Honda is planning to introduce an insanely cheap mini-EV model for commercial use at the $8,000 (1 million yen) price range in Japan by 2024. After that, Honda will start to roll out personal use mini-EVs and EV SUVs, the company said. Honda is offering this car for commercial use first because Japan lacks the charging infrastructure needed to roll out wide-scale EV deployment

- By the same year in North America, Honda also plans to introduce two mid-to-large size EV models – a Honda Prologue SUV and an Acura SUV – which are currently being developed with General Motors at prices that are cost-competitive with internal combustion engine vehicles.

- The Honda e: Architecture, which the company plans to introduce in 2026, will be an EV platform that includes both a hardware and software layer and is cloud-connected.Like many other automakers, Honda sees the potential for the software-defined vehicle to help bring in recurrent revenue through third-party applications. That’s why it’s building an application layer on top of the vehicle operating system, which can be continuously updated over the air
