The Sync Report | Antonio Campos

Season 2, Episode 3,   May 05, 2022, 07:00 PM

We spoke to the creator of HBO Max brand new TV show THE STAIRCASE. Director, producer and writer Antonio Campos joined us to talk about filmmaking (& making TV shows!)

Listen to Antonio as he talks about making films, the importance of gaining filmmaking experience by making short films, how to start making feature films, what you need to know to make a film and how important it is to understand everyone’s role on set, among lots of useful information and stories about filmmaking.

Listen to Antonio as he talks us through making his first film at aged 13 after he sneaked his way into NYFA. Hear how he went on to make the short film Buy It Now and how that led to his first feature film; Afterschool, starring Ezra Miller (in his first feature film role) which premiered at Cannes Film Festival, earned him several major film festival nominations and brilliant reviews.

Hear how Antonio came up with the idea for his movie Simon Killer and then shot it without a script, how he spent a year trying to license a song by LCD Soundsytem and how he and Brady Corbet eventually licensed the track thanks to good timing and a chance meeting.

Antonio talks about making the film Christine and getting to know the character behind the true story, plus the power and importance of music in all his movies including The Devil All The Time.

Antonio Campos wrote, directed and executive produced a new Limited TV Series The Staircase, starring Colin Firth, Juliette Binoche, Sophie Turner, and Toni Collette is showing now on HBO Max (Sky Atlantic in the UK).
Join the music sync session with special guest Tony Cardenas-Montana, formerly of Great White. Listen to Tony talk about song-writing for, and being part of Great White. Our sync panel listens to Sugarbowl by Tony’s band Shadow & The Thrill that he submitted for a movie sync opportunity running through The Sync Report.

Then we listen to music from three musicians who submitted songs for sync opportunities running through The Sync Report, including a collaboration between musicians who met through the show then created a song for one of the film sync opportunities.
