AMONG the headlines for Friday, May 13, 2022, Malaysia's economic growth picked up pace in the first quarter and was likely to accelerate further this year amid sustained demand and the reopening of international borders, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said today.

Gross domestic product rose 5% in the January-March period and up from 3.6% growth in the previous quarter.

Also, North Korea sparks new calls for the government to accept aid that could save lives, help protect its battered economy, and possibly lead to a diplomatic opening, as it faces its first confirmed COVID-19 outbreak with no known vaccine programme.
