Vidar Hjardeng MBE - The Play That Goes Wrong, Audio Described Theatre Review

Season 1, Episode 1244,   May 27, 2022, 08:00 AM

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio audio described theatre reviews.

This week Vidar was reviewing Mischief Comedy’s multi award winning international smash hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham, Wednesday 18 May 2022 with audio description by professional Describer Jonathan Nash.

In The Play That Goes Wrong the Cornley Drama Society are putting on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong… does! As the accident prone thesps battle on against all the odds to reach their final curtain call, hilarious results ensue!

Vidar began by telling Toby that with out the excellent audio description by Jonathan Nash he would have found it very difficult to follow what was happening on and off stage in this comedy play within a play with actors playing characters who were playing actors with lots of hilarious consequences.

Vidar continued by saying Jonathan’s audio description was timed perfectly to ensure that audio description users would not miss out any of the jokes and be able to laugh at the same time as everyone else.

There was also much praise from Vidar to all the staff who were on duty at the Alexandra Theatre for the audio described performance of The Play That Goes Wrong for all their help and support with getting around the theatre, finding seats, handing out of audio description headsets which makes for a great theatre experience for Vidar and other visually impaired AD theatre users.

The Play That Goes Wrong continues on tour around the UK and more details along with tour dates can be found by visiting the following website - https://www.mischiefcomedy.com/theplaythatgoeswrong-uk-tour
