"Film captures memories, but like our memories, these photos degrade and only offer a piece of what took place and how it made us feel. I used this old-school kodak camera sound as inspiration to translate this experience of memory and technology obsolescence into sound art.
"Each time the camera goes off and a new photo is attempted, the sound of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean sunset soundscape becomes distorted, discoloured, or faded until I finally return to camp. Each snapshot offers a different sonic representation of the scene, a scene that just can't quite be captured. The setting is Cape Breton's Ingonish Beach at sunset, using an original recording I did this summer."
This is part of the Obsolete Sounds project, the world’s biggest collection of disappearing sounds and sounds that have become extinct – remixed and reimagined to create a brand new form of listening. Explore the whole project at https://citiesandmemory.com/obsolete-sounds
