Vidar Hjardeng MBE - The Color Purple, Audio Described Theatre Review

Season 1, Episode 1403,   Sep 30, 2022, 02:00 PM

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio audio described theatre reviews.

This week Vidar was reviewing the audio described performance of The Color Purple at the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre on Saturday 17 September at 2.30pm with audio description by professional Describers Nadine Beasley and Kate Taylor-Davies.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winner Marsha Norman, The Color Purple tells the story of courageous heroine Celie, as she journeys through joy, despair, anguish and hope in her own personal awakening to discover her unique voice in the world.

Vidar began by telling Toby that The Color Purple was a real compelling story, well performed with a great cast and nice to have the opportunity prior to the audio described performance to go on a touch tour of the set, costumes and props along with chatting with some of the cast as they had just finished warming up for the afternoon performance.

The Color Purple continues on tour around the country and more details can be found by searching for The Color Purple UK Tour in your favourite web browser.
