Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, is being performed in Urdu across the UK this week. It is part of the ‘Globe to Globe’ festival putting on all 37 of Shakespeare's works in 37 different languages. For the Urdu interpretation the story is transported to 1980’s Lahore and tells the story of an educated woman betrothed to a commoner. The director and cast told the BBC they were determined to show an alternative Pakistan to the negative image often depicted in the West. It is being performed in Oxford, London’s Globe, as well as in Rotherham and Bradford. BBC reporter Catrin Nye went along to a performance.
