Flashback Friday | #157: Graveyard of Empires | Scott Horton

Feb 17, 2023, 05:00 AM

As the 20-year war in Afghanistan comes to a disastrous conclusion, even more questions have emerged as to why America was there in the first place. And why they didn’t leave sooner.

Scott Horton is the author of several books on the Afghan war and runs the wildly popular website Antiwar.com. He breaks down the mistakes that were made, not just with the botched exit, but from the initial invasion just weeks after 9/11.

The repercussions of the longest war in American history will be felt for decades to come both inside and outside of the United States, but the loss of goodwill and respect from other nations is something impossible to quantify. America lost more than just the war, it lost what little moral superiority it claimed to have.
