0069 Wine Tasting Robots

Well, Japanese scientists have created the world’s first wine-tasting robot and the thought that springs to mind is: Why? Followed by: what were they thinking? Or, more to the point, what were they drinking? The scientists who invented it say it’s to prevent “uncultivated” drinkers from making terrible faux pas when choosing wine to serve with the gyoza or soba. The robots use infrared light to identify wines based on light absorption. Their “nose” – which is actually a sensor mounted on one arm – can only differentiate among a couple dozen wines but developers are hoping that the robot will be used for quality control by vintners in the future. What’s next? Rock ‘em sake robots? #ceas #japan #schneiderwind #tsutsui
