It has been almost 50 years since the Stonewall uprising, a momentous event in LGBTQ history, yet transgender women are still facing discrimination and harassment from police officers. Despite the progress that has been made with regards to LGBTQ rights, transgender women continue to be disproportionately targeted by law enforcement and face violence, intimidation and humiliation. This is an issue that needs to be addressed urgently as it not only violates the human rights of transgender individuals but also undermines the public’s trust in law enforcement.
