The Maritime Labour Convention 2006 was introduced a decade ago and ratified by many yachting Flag States and sets out the employment standard for seafarers. MLC 2006 covers repatriation, living conditions, hours of rest, social security and recruitment and placement of crew.

MLC 2006 applies to commercial vessels and reputable owners with the crew interest at heart will comply voluntarily. Professional employers will comply with MLC 2006 standards.

The market demand for seafarers is likely to see an improvement in yachting conditions of employment.
