History and Politics - Harry Constable - Dockworker Leader with Ritchie Hunter

Episode 76,   May 12, 2023, 05:14 PM

Today, I speak to Ritchie Hunter, a local historian, politician and grassroots activist and an editor of Nerve Magazine. We talk about the story of Harry Constable, a leader of the dockworkers in their fight for decent pay and conditions in the mid Twentieth Century. This story has been turned into a fantastic podcast featuring Christopher Eccleston, and it is available through the Nerve Website. Nerve is a now online magazine that aims to promote ‘awareness, social issues, critical thinking, culture and so much more’ in the Liverpool area and beyond. Harry Constable had a big impact on Liverpool despite being born and raised in London. He was not afraid to go against the official Trade Unions either. Please check out this excellent podcast for yourself after you have listened to North and South.
