Season 4, Episode 13,   Jun 12, 2023, 05:30 PM

Making a return visit to the ship.energy podcast, this week’s guest is Valentina Keys, Senior Associate in the Environment, Health & Safety Team at law firm Watson Farley & Williams.

In conversation with Mark Williams, Valentina assesses the impact of the Carbon Intensity Index (CII), which came into play in January this year. She also looks forward to the discussions and decisions expected to come out of the meeting of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 80) in July, such as the revision of the IMO’s initial greenhouse strategy, first published in 2018, and the ratification of the Mediterranean Emissions Control Area (ECA). Valentina also considers how maritime stakeholders might be preparing for the inclusion of shipping in the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS).

Valentina regularly advises clients on various aspects of Net Zero, the EU Green Deal, Fit for 55, EU ETS, the Circular Economy and the wider sustainability/climate change/decarbonisation agenda as it applies to different sectors.

She is a regular speaker at international maritime and clean cargo events and advises on a range of topics from compliance with cleaner fuel and emission reduction requirements to sustainable ports, clean cargo and innovative financing models such as Poseidon Principles and the Sea Cargo Charter, amongst others.

Valentina has been named as a ‘Rising Star’ by Legal 500 in 2022.
