Prophecy Radio episode #88 gets back to Egyptian mythology by doing a Deep Dive on everyone’s favorite cat goddess, Bast. Plus, we tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including the possibility that we could be getting a Chalice of the Gods sequel. This week, we also return to The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 12 and facing off with the scorpion deity Serqet. - Keep an eye on Rainbow Crate’s socials for a possible reprint of The Sun and the Star with the new cover.
- The UK cover for Chalice of the Gods is spectacular, and we once again have to give major props to Khadijah Khatib.

- And we might’ve figured out what the mysterious book Rick is working on is.
- Variety reports that Disney and several other studios will not host panels at SDCC this year.

Deep Dive: Bast (00:17:04)
- We’re super excited to talk about Bast, and—by association—Callie!
- We’re already starting off on rough footing because we don’t actually know the origins of her name.
- It makes a lot of sense that Bast is associated with Artemis.
- Weirdly enough, she started off as a lioness goddess of the SUN, not the moon.
- She’s got some pretty recognizable family members.
- Bast has a lot of important roles in Egyptian society, which explains why she was so popular.
- Shoutout to Brendan Fraser in The Mummy!
- There seems to be some connection between Bast and alabaster.
- What symbols are usually associated with her?
- We didn’t expect to see the word aegis again!
- Her transformation from a lion goddess to a domesticated cat goddess is super interesting.
- Can we not name deadly asteroids after the enemies of the sun god?
- Ancient Egyptians really, REALLY loved cats.
- Bubastis is such a cool name for a city, and it sounds like it was a fun place to hang out, too.
- Is it weird that an important component to Bast’s temples was water?
- Karen wants more information on the festivals of Bast because they sound amazing.
- It makes so much sense that Bast is the first deity we really get to know in The Red Pyramid.
- Will she end up fighting Apophis?
- We hope Bast sticks around for all three books!

- This week, we’re discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 12!
- Serqet is, like, SUPER creepy…but also a little awesome?
- Why is Sadie so drawn to help Zia, who is clearly holding her own just fine?
- How did Sadie know about the Seven Ribbons of Hathor?
- Regardless, Zia must be pretty powerful to be able to wield them.
- We wonder if Sadie’s powers come from her mother and if it’s a female lineage kind of thing.
- We already know who we want to play Bast in the Red Pyramid Netflix film.
- Kristen tries to make scorpions even scarier than they already are.
