"Arts Alive" w/ Bill DeYoung: Duncan McClellan 7-19-23

Episode 6452,   Jul 20, 2023, 03:41 PM

Duncan McClellan lays bare the humility that has made him one of St. Pete’s favorite creatives.

Q: “When did you know that you were good at it?”

(long pause) A: “I’ll let you know. And I’m not being facetious. I think if an artist doesn’t believe that his best pieces are in front of him … if you’re asking, am I adequate? Can I hold up? I would hope so.”

McClellan goes on to say that he only “got into the gallery business” to show off the work of glass artists he admired.

At a DMG School Project event.
That was about a dozen years ago, when the Duncan McClellan Gallery – converted from a tomato-packing plant – became an early anchor tenant in the Warehouse Arts District. Since then, it’s expanded to include a state-of-the-art “hot shop” for glassblowers (McClellan included) and, closest to the artist’s heart, the DMG School Project, bringing the art of glass to the community through master classes, demonstrations, lectures and other presentations.

It’s a free-flowing discussion about the art and the artist … where they’ve been, and where they’re going.#duncanmcClellan #billdeyoung #stpetecatalyst #tampabay #radio #radiostpete
