I remember looking at the vast numbers, terrible number of deaths we had in our patients, in April 2020… Actually, I can still picture some of those – there’s the thing about general practice, the continuity of care.  I can remember one lady very clearly who used to come and see me, she wasn’t in a care home, she was elderly, she had auto-immune arthritis and she was on various immune-suppressants, uh, but actually, lived alone, she was a widow, lived alone, has a good quality of life, as far as I could see, and I went down the list and went, ‘Ah, no!’, these people who I knew and perhaps had known for many years, and so there was a direct impact...  Our senior receptionist, whose been in the practice, what 25 years, she said to me one morning, in floods of tears, she said ‘Jonathan, these weren’t our patients, these were our friends.’
