Polypoetes is a king without a people, having sent the Lapiths home, and finds himself often in the company of Briseis while they await the return of their respective ships, after Achilles is sent off to Lesbos for ritual purification. Demophon and Polypoetes accuse Menestheus of orchestrating the assassination attempt on Demophon's life before the Achaean Assembly and High King Agamemnon.
