A Florida woman has been arrested on charges of child neglect after keeping her 11-year-old son in a $300-a-night hotel room with her while she engaged in illicit activities with two men, one of whom tragically lost his life.
The suspect, identified as Amy Kemper, 32, and her young son checked into the luxurious Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Palm Coast, Florida, on a Saturday night, with disastrous consequences to follow.
Local law enforcement authorities have disclosed that Kemper had visited the hotel with the intention of engaging in drug use and sexual activities with two older men. Disturbingly, her son was present in the room throughout this harrowing ordeal.
The tragedy came to light on Sunday morning when Kemper placed a frantic 911 call to report that one of the men was unresponsive. Tragically, the man was later pronounced dead. At present, the exact cause of death remains undisclosed.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, who shared details of the incident, stated that Kemper and her son had surreptitiously entered the resort "in the middle of the night so she could engage in narcotic use and sexual activities." Authorities have confirmed that the child was present in the room throughout this period.
According to the arrest report from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, Kemper allegedly believed the deceased man was asleep and only realized something was amiss when she heard him "snoring unusually." She subsequently left the hotel with the other man, leaving her son unattended in the room for several hours. Upon her return, she discovered the lifeless body of the 60-year-old man, and her child remained in the same spot where she had left him.
Kemper now faces Child Neglect Without Great Bodily Harm charges and has been detained at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, with bail set at $15,000. Meanwhile, The Florida Department of Children and Families has taken her son into protective custody.
The identities of the two men involved in this tragic incident have not been disclosed, leaving unanswered questions about the child's father and the circumstances that led to the child being in the room with his mother during the ordeal.
Aside from the disturbing incident at the resort, Kemper was known to work as a nail technician and artist at NailBar103 in Palm Coast. Her prior criminal record includes misdemeanor charges in 2015 for marijuana possession and in 2019 for domestic battery, resulting in her release shortly after her arrest. However, her latest charge of child neglect marks her first felony, and she awaits trial.
Sheriff Staly expressed his dismay in a 'Weekend Roundup' statement posted on the department's Facebook page: "Deputies were busy this past weekend. A woman thought it was okay to bring her child to a resort in the middle of the night so she could engage in narcotic use and sexual activities."
The whereabouts and circumstances surrounding the child's father remain unclear.
