"The recording I chose was the resonance of beach wind from inside a flagpole. I live on the coast (hence the track title name) and this sound connected with me whilst having a unique character and energy; which I thought would be a good foundation to work with. The raw recording is intense with lots of low end frequencies, this was subdued using a dynamic EQ so it wasn’t too overbearing. I added some EQ filter modulation for interest, reverb for ambient space and chorus modulation for a more cosmic inspired atmosphere.

"I played around with some chords and musical sounds I liked and built the main melody, keeping plenty of space between notes in the arrangement. This helps to give it a sense of space and calm in the structure.

"Some of the synth pad layers were processed through hardware pedals like the Hologram Microcosm for added texture. A 1 Hz beating tone fades in slowly, made from a 120 Hz sine wave and a 121 Hz sine wave, the perceived difference being a 1 Hz monaural beat. This can help some people stimulate a Delta brainwave state that can be beneficial for mediation or sleeping. Hopefully the composition reflects my interpretation of music for sleep and allows people to switch off and drift away."
