Sassy Scribe Celebrates Shark Week - Fin-Tastic Experiences 7-8-24

July is a popular month for shark-lovers and with Shark Awareness Day (July 14) lurking up ahead. Both Clearwater Marine Aquarium and  Discovery Cove in Orlando offer some jaw-dropping experiences.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium presents Shark Week lineup July 7-14 and it’s got quite a bite to it; learn about conservation and more. The week will also include shark mascot appearances, as well as chances to win prizes. There will be many games and activities for different age groups, shark chats throughout the day, shark bingo games, create your own ocean slime table, and shark crafts in the Kids Zone.
Limited-Time Program for Shark & Ray Awareness Week at CMA July 9-14 Enjoy an exclusive, hands-on experience with our aquatic biologists during Shark & Ray Awareness Week at CMA. This limited-time experience is open to shark enthusiasts aged 10 and up, with a max of two participants per session, July 9-14, on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Spend 15-20 minutes learning about the diet of sharks, observing and participating in a target training session with two epaulette sharks and a yellow ray. Don’t miss this chance to dive into the world of sharks and discover their fascinating behaviors up close.
Shark Care Experience at CMA July 9-14 Come meet Thelma, CMA’s resident nurse shark in the lower mangrove habitat. During this program, guests can assist CMA’s animal care specialists in guiding and feeding our shark. Guests  will learn how CMA improves the health and well-being, and gain a greater understanding of these misunderstood creatures.  Approximate duration 30 minutes; minimum age is 7 years old. Includes a professional souvenir photo of your experience. 

At Discovery Cove in Orlando, take a bite out of these adventures! Only 24 guests per day get to experience the park’s all-new Shark Snorkel, putting on a mask and snorkel to experience the exhilaration of a deep-water free swim with more than 20 resident Pacific Blacktip, Nurse, Zebra, Whitetip Reef and Bonnethead sharks. The Shark Snorkel starts at $79 per person and may be added onto either a Signature Dolphin Swim or Day Resort package. All participants must be at least 10 years of age. Space is limited so guests are encouraged to reserve their spots immediately.  Feed sharks and more with the Shark Interaction program. Shark Interaction also has limited daily inventory and provides guests with an intimate and awe-inspiring shark encounter accompanied by Discovery Cove’s expert aquarists, who share intriguing facts about the sharks in the habitat. Guests who book this program receive snorkel time, as well. See sharks from below. Guests not quite ready to swim side-by-side with sharks can reserve a spot for SeaVenture, an underwater walking tour, where guests wear dive helmets and enjoy breathtaking views of dozens of sharks (behind a viewing window), as well as one-on-one touches with unique animals, schools of fish and gentle rays.
