RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio theatre reviews.

This week Vidar was reviewing a stirring tale of love, hope and miracles with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Pericles at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon with description by Professional Audio Describers Ellie Packer and Carolyn Smith.

About the RSC production of Pericles:

Swept away on an epic voyage of storms and shipwrecks, abduction and devastating loss, Pericles is adrift in an ocean of grief. Will he ever see his family again?

‘O you gods! Why do you make us love your goodly gifts, And snatch them straight away?’

When Prince Pericles solves a riddle set by the King, he knows the answer could get him killed. Fleeing for safety, he finds himself swept away on an epic voyage that will see him battle princes, marry his true love and become a father. But this is also a journey of storms and shipwrecks, abduction and devastating loss. Adrift in an ocean of grief, will Pericles ever see his family again?

Shakespeare’s stirring tale of love, hope and miracles marks the RSC debut of Tamara Harvey, our Co-Artistic Director.

Known for his television work including How to Get Away With Murder as well as his acclaimed stage work including Red (Wyndham's), Romeo in Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare's Globe) and Orlando in As You Like It (Soho Place), award-winning actor Alfred Enoch plays the title role.

There will be another audio described performance of Pericles at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon on Thursday 12 September at 7.30pm and to find out more about this and other audio described performances including details of general access  at the RSC do visit - https://www.rsc.org.uk/your-visit/access
