Digital platforms are altering affective responses to challenges that we encounter, at times worsening relations between people. Content moderation is not proving to be effective in containing the spread of harmful messages. Recently, South Sudan experienced protests that prompted the National Communications Authority to restrict social media access for 72 hours.
