**Scotty Barnhart has been the Director of The Count Basie Orchestra since 2013 and is now in his 32nd year with the band, touring the country for 20 weeks a year playing 4-5 shows a week with 17 musicians and singer Carmen Bradford. Bradford and trombonist played with Count Basie, the last two long-time members. The Count Basie Orchestra is celebrating 90 years, and in 2024-2025 Barnhart played prestigious music festivals (just back from Monte Carlo), the Hollywood Bowl, Europe and Japan ("they love Count Basie's music"). Splitting his time between Los Angeles, the 60 year old composer, arranger and jazz trumpeter has won Grammy awards with the Basie Orchestra and recorded with Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Ray Charles and Tito Puente. Scotty is also Artistic Director of the Florida Jazz and Blues Festival, a professor of jazz trumpet at Florida State University and author of the 2005 The World of Jazz Trumpet which he updated to feature 55 interviews for a winter 2025-2026 release. As a child, he requested a guitar at school in Atlanta but instead was given a silver Yamaha trumpet, fell in love with Count Basie's music and met Martin Luther King at the Ebenezer Church he and his family attended for many years. "I've been entrusted with his legacy to keep the standards high," says Scotty. And he does. LEARN MORE www.scottybarnhart.com www.thecountbasieorchestra.com
