Suomenlinna is is a sea fortress composed of eight islands, of which six have been fortified; it is about 4 km southeast of central Helsinki. The Swedish crown commenced the construction of the fortress in 1748 as protection against Russian expansionism. This recording captures the working life of the population living on the islands, as work takes place on a boat in the dry dock, with a large crane moving back and forth.
