In this episode of SOUNDS of HEALING, Alvinette Downing talks with Greg Porter who grew up attending practice sessions with jazz musicians (including Al Downing) and Alumni singers at the Enoch Davis Center where his love for culturally important music began to bud as he was influenced by the Jazz and Negro spirituals. A well known jazz enthusiast and performer, he is works as a Clinical Career Development Educator and serves as the Director of Music at the historic Bethel AME Church in St. Petersburg. Greg uses music in various sessions as a valid and helpful modality of treatment to address stress, anxiety and emotional processing. He also uses music as an impactful tool to bring attention to and convey the ideals of social justice, equality of unity in ecumenical and religious circles throughout the state.  You can hear him sing frequently at the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association's Monday Jazz Jam at The Hangar. https://www.aldowningjazz.com/
