Arts Alliance Terry Marks + Guest Howayda Affan, Exec. Director Morean Arts Center

St. Petersburg Arts Alliance Executive Director Terry Marks chatted with Howayda Affan,  the Executive Director of the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL, where she serves as the 14th Director in the organization’s 108- year history. Affan is dedicated to the Morean’s service to the community and in advancing its important role in the visual arts and arts education in the Tampa Bay area. Since her appointment in early 2019, Affan has led the Morean to embrace its founding principles of connecting people with art and has helped move it towards forging a culture of creativity and inclusion by emphasizing the importance and accessibility of visual culture. She leads the Morean’s strategic vision and its robust daily operations that span across its four venues; the Morean Arts Center, the Chihuly Collection, the Morean Center for Clay and the Morean Glass Studio. Affan previously served as the Director of Development at the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville, FL and the Deputy Director of the Armenian Museum in Boston, MA. Affan holds a Master’s degree in Museum Studies from Harvard University and is an alumnus of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay’s Non-Profit CEO Leadership Program.
