In this episode of "Your Monthly Shot of Poetry," host Maureen McDole talks about her journey from art to poetry and the importance of journaling during National Poetry Month and the St. Petersburg Festival of Writers series around town. McDole's Keep St. Pete Lit https://keepstpetelit.org organizes classes, book clubs, book events and a 1st Wednesday 7-9 pm monthly open poetry mic at Studio@620 hosted by Sara Ries Dziekonski with a feature poet. McDole is busy writing poetry, her new The Painter & The Poet project and a memoir with poems "Mending The Nets" in 2026. McDole talked about her work, read some enchanting poems for Earth Month.
***She is involved with YellowJacket Press, and encouraged Florida poets to submit their original work this spring. "We are proud to now be the fiscal sponsor of YellowJacket Press, which has been publishing chapbooks by Florida authors since 2008. It will be managed and edited by Poetry Midwives! Once a year YellowJacket Press will run the YellowJacket Press Chapbook Competition for an unpublished chapbook of poems no more than 20 pages in length, not including front and back matter (table of contents, title page, etc.).
