In this week’s Bulls by the Bay with Caryn Nesmith, the USF St. Petersburg Campus celebrated a double win with the success of Giving Week and Snowbird the comfort dog’s third birthday bash, which brought joy and furry friends from across the community. The Campus Comfort Dog Fund exceeded its goal, unlocking a $3,000 matching gift to support the program. In research news, USF's College of Marine Science launched a five-year study examining pollutants in Tampa Bay fish like snook and redfish to better understand seafood safety for local anglers. Meanwhile, a groundbreaking discovery by USF St. Petersburg researchers identified viruses tied to red tide blooms, offering hope for improved forecasting and mitigation. In the realm of urban development, USF representatives traveled to New York City with the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership to gain insight from revitalized public spaces like the High Line. The campus also welcomed members of Leadership USF, a new initiative uniting 15 regional leaders in a program centered on collaboration and innovation. Finally, students took part in USF Day at City Hall, engaging with Mayor Ken Welch and learning about the importance of civic involvement. That’s all for this week—stay tuned for more stories from the place where innovation meets community.
