As uncertainty persists on the future of South Sudan's Revitalised Peace Agreement, the National Elections Commission has reaffirmed South Sudan’s commitment to conducting national elections by December 2026. Chairperson Professor Abednego Akok emphasises the crucial role of political will and adequate funding in meeting this timeline. He discloses that a budget proposal of 22 million USD has been submitted to Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel to support key preparatory activities, including the establishment of state offices. Professor Akok also underscores the importance of ensuring transparency and security throughout the vote-counting process.
