In this episode of Music Scene, Berklee College of Music student and musician Anika Sky joined host Nanette Wiser in studio, with JazzyPopANova Fiona Frensche by phone on her way to playing The Palms at Tradewinds Island Resort before her European tour. Fiona's Women of Song show ran on RSP for more than a year, and she met Anika Sky during that time, interviewing her and then featuring her as part of a Women of Song show! Fiona lived the jazz/punk scene in NYC in the day, so we talk about great jazz clubs now and then like Arturo's and her homage to The Jazz Died with Harry, plus her new songs Sylvie and The Moon is Made of Gold. Fiona shares stories about her favorite jazz singers, from Josephine Baker to Edith Piaf, the upcoming Nice Jazz Festival and other women of song that she and Anika admire.
ANIKA SKY Anika Sky’s music is eccentric, quirky, fun, and musically compelling. Anika started playing shows in her hometown of St. Petersburg, FL at the age of 10 and is now studying at Berklee College Of Music in Boston, MA. With years of experience in different environments, Anika has always strived to find a unique sound that incorporates elements of each genre of music she has studied over the years. After finding like minded people at Berklee, Anika formed her band “The Anika Sky Orbit”, playing both her originals and popular cover songs with a jazz-y spin. Since forming, they have played various venues around Boston. Anika released her debut EP “Eyeshot” on all streaming platforms in 2022, and just released her newest single “Lost Cause”.
