🌊 Celebrating an EOS Milestone
On August 14, Senator Nick DiCeglie and Representative Linda Chaney joined USF leadership for a ceremonial check presentation of $10 million in state funding for the new Environmental and Oceanographic Sciences Research and Teaching Facility. As Regional Chancellor Christian Hardigree said, “This is more than a building. It’s a launchpad for solutions.” The facility will expand research, enhance student opportunities and strengthen leadership in marine science and coastal resiliency.
🍃 Sargassum Research
USF College of Marine Science researchers are tackling the challenges of record-breaking sargassum blooms across Florida and the Caribbean. With a $3.2 million NOAA grant, they developed the Sargassum Watch System, a near real-time forecasting tool that helps communities prepare for the environmental and economic impacts of this invasive seaweed.
📚 Rocky’s Book Club
Launching this fall, USF St. Pete introduces Rocky’s Book Club — a monthly community gathering at the campus bookstore featuring a different host and book each month. The first event is Tuesday, September 9 (5:30–7:00 p.m.) with Regional Chancellor Christian Hardigree leading a discussion of The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Free to attend, with light bites and café drink discounts!

Join us Wednesday, August 27 at noon for a live Radio St. Pete broadcast from the campus bookstore! Hosts Stephen Riordan and Domenico Pontoriero will chat with special guests about campus life and the upcoming semester — followed by live music right in the bookstore.
