September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and ovarian cancer survivor and advocate Kerry Kriseman talked about what you need to know about this cancer, one of the few without an early detection test such as cervical cancer (pap smear) and breast cancer (mammogram). From diagnosis to treatment and recovery, Kriseman talks about the importance of paying attention to any health issues and talking with your doctor immediately. Currently active with Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) , she has proclamations from Clearwater, Tampa and St. Petersburg recognizing September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and is helping publicize this week's fundraiser benefiting the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation. Joining her in studio was Claudette Carlan, daughter of Celma and president of the non-profit.
👉On September 13, the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation's One Step Closer race helps raise awareness and support for Ovarian Cancer fighters, survivors, and research. This has been a tradition for 22 years! Bring your friends, coworkers, and family and run, jog, or walk in beautiful Downtown St. Petersburg starting at Albert Whitted Park. The race helps provide financial assistance to local patients and supports research, prevention, and education in the community! Grab your bucket hat and coconut water and join them for a tropical 5K adventure inspired by "Gilligan’s Island!" Sign up for the S.S. Minnow Mile, a fun 1-mile event you can run or walk. New this year is the Island Stiletto Dash where you can “Walk in her shoes, so she doesn't have to go it alone.” It’s a spirited, crowd-favorite portion of the walk where men & women step into stilettos in solidarity.
