After more than four years of closure, construction delays related to Covid 19, supply chain issues and last year's hurricanes, the extensive renovations are now completed. The President Barack Obama Main Library in St. Petersburg officially reopened today in a festive ceremony that marked a milestone for the city’s cultural and educational life.
Mayor Welch, City officials, community leaders, and invited guests gathered for a ribbon-cutting event. The formal ceremony, broadcast live by Sunshine 96.7 FM and RadioStPete.com included musical performances (Gibbs High School Jazz Band, vocalist Deneen Wyman, the Marching Spartans Drumline from Lakewood High) and speeches from Mayor Ken Welch, City Council Chair Copley Gerdes, Library Director Beth Lindsay, and other dignitaries. At 10 a.m., the doors officially opened to the public, and nearly 1,000 people streamed in for first tours. #stpete #stpetefl #obamalibrary #mayorwelch #pinellascounty #tampabay #radio #radiostpete
