The Sassy Scribe loves exploring all of Pinellas County neighborhoods, from St. Pete to the Beaches...and beyond! In this episode of Neighborhoods, host Nanette Wiser visits with Old Southeast's communications lead Donika Vlada and Old Southeast Arts Enclave member Annie Johnson, an artist and Old Southeast resident. The Old Southeast Artist Enclave was officially designated in 2014 by the City of St. Petersburg. This designation followed strong community support in a 2013 neighborhood vote. This special zoning encourages a vibrant, creative community by enabling artists to live, work, and share their art directly from their residences. Old Southeast is one of only two neighborhoods in St. Petersburg with this designation—the other being Historic Kenwood. Every year, the Old Southeast Artist Enclave opens its doors to celebrate the vibrant spirit of our creative community - OSE Artist Enclave Annual Studio Tour, a chance to connect with the makers, explore their process, and experience the heartbeat of St. Pete’s art scene. Coming up, October 25th at 10am - 4pm.
Earlier this year, the OSE Artist Enclave was honored to receive the Level Up Grant from the City of St. Petersburg—an exciting boost that helped launch our Young Artist Series, designed to engage neighborhood children and introduce them to the vibrant lives of our local artists with three hands-on workshops so far: Printmaking, Mosaic, and Shell Craft, each led by professional artists from their community. These free classes gave kids (and their families!) the opportunity to explore creative expression in diverse art forms, work with recyclable, found or unexpected materials, ask questions, and experience the joy of making art alongside professional artists.
This November, we’re honored to be invited to participate in CommUNITY Picnic Land 2025 on 11/8 As we prepare for this exciting event, we’re also reflecting on how we can expand our mission of fostering creativity, connection, and community through the arts. We’re excited to announce that we’re planning a Holiday Art Market 12/6 at Old Southeast Market as well—just in time to celebrate the season and support local creativity.
