In our ongoing interviews with Tampa Bay Times editors and reporters, we shine a light on the reporters and editors behind the entertaining and informative Tampa Bay Times articles. In addition to these interviews,  RadioStPete is proud to rebroadcast the Tampa Bay Times Total Media Forums on topics ranging from AI to water quality. In this episode, Lunchtime Conversations host Nanette Wiser gabs with Gabrielle Calise (culture, music and nostalgia reporter since 2018) and Michelle Stark, Culture Editor, who started as an intern in 2010.
Michelle Stark is the Culture Editor for the Tampa Bay Times, overseeing a team of reporters who help you plan the things that enrich your lives, from the local dining scene to Florida culture. Michelle started at the Times as an intern in 2010, working as a copy editor before joining our team of culture writers as a jack of all trades. She has produced video series, designed newspaper pages, managed a food section as our food editor, planned large-scale projects and more. You can catch her soaking up culture all over Tampa Bay, from orchestra shows to salsa dancing to fine dining. Michelle is a Florida native, a graduate of the University of South Florida, and the proud owner of way too many pairs of boots for someone who has never lived in a state with seasons.
Gabrielle Calise is the culture and nostalgia reporter at her hometown paper, the Tampa Bay Times, and the editor of A24's travel book Florida! A Hyper-local Guide to the Flora, Fauna, and Fantasy of the Most Far-out State in America. When she’s not writing about local history, music and shenanigans, she can be found singing and playing guitar in her all-female, multigenerational indie rock band, Hex Appeal. Gabrielle’s beat revolves around weird Florida, Tampa Bay history, local personalities and food culture. Her favorite stories answer the type of questions that you’ve thought about while driving down the side of the road, like, “How do you pronounce THAT?” and “What the hell is that thing?” She founded the Tampa Bay Times’ Florida Wonders series to chase down answers to reader queries. Before that, she worked on Tampa Bay Times’ audience engagement team as a social media producer, leading a digital brand redesign for the paper and shaping audience strategy.
