Lunchtime Conversations host Nanette Wiser  couldn't stop thinking about her grandmother during this heartfelt and moving chat with Joanne Kilgore Dowdy, who moved here two years ago. You might have caught her reading at Southeast Artist Enclave or at Largo Library last February. This collection of stories, her 19th publication, are inspired by sayings of her grandmother and other elders during her childhood and youth in Trinidad. Both amusing and insightful,  Dowdy is available for readings. A dance performance based on one of her stories will debut at Garth Fagan Dance in Rochester in 2026 after she did a reading there earlier this year. Joanne Kilgour Dowdy PhD is Professor Emerita at Kent State University, Ohio. She is the author and editor of 18 books. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, she has performed Between Me and the Lord, an autobiographical work in Trinidad and the USA.  Among her awards is the Derek Walcott (1992, Nobel Laureate) Scholarship. Her first children’s book, OLYMPIC HERO: LENNOX KILGOUR’S STORY, was made into an animated film. The book now appears in Spanish and Haitian Krewol.  To book a speaking engagement or a reading, email Drjoanne@yahoo.com.
