In this episode of NEIGHBORHOODS with host Nanette Wiser, The Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association President Nick Bell previews the much anticipated HONNA holiday event, the Candlelight Tour of Homes.
Holiday Tradition Returns with Babe Ruth’s Home, Live Holiday Music, and Local Food and Beverages The Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association’s Candlelight Tour of Homes will celebrate its 26th edition Sunday, December 7 from 3-8 pm. The 7 historic homes include five homes from the 1920’s and two from the 1940’s. Architectural styles include Colonial Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Craftsman Bungalow, and Florida Ranch. This year’s homes range from ‘modest to mansion’ in size and span the length of the neighborhood, from 9th Avenue to 28th Avenue, including one home in the renowned Granada Terrace local historic district. Trolleys will once again transport Tour guests between homes. “We’re especially excited to feature a newly restored home occupied by Babe Ruth and his family in 1935 during his last spring training season as a baseball player,” Nick says. An array of musical live entertainment will entertain guests along the Tour route. Guests won’t go hungry or thirsty because they’ll be able to purchase food and beverages from a dozen local vendors at the Hospitality Refreshment Station. Proceeds from the Tour help replenish the neighborhood’s tree canopy. A portion of the funds will be donated to Friends of Strays and Pet Pal.
👉Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets early as the Tour is expected to once again sell out. They are available for $35 online at www.honna.org and the following businesses (cash or check only): Marion’s (1301 4th Street N), Sunken Gardens (1825 4th Street N), and Old Northeast Rally Station (2131 4th Street N). No tickets will be sold the day of the Tour.
