Today’s guest on the Arts Alive! podcast is Leslie Eslasser, director of St. Petersburg’s Wild Space Gallery. Located inside The Factory St. Pete, Wild Space is owned and operated by the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping obtain and preserve 18 million contiguous acres of Florida land, in order to keep the habitat pristine (and unbroken) for more than 130 imperiled animal species.
Approximately 10 million acres, some of it former ranch and farmland, has been preserved so far. But the challenge continues.  Wild Space’s purpose is two-fold: It’s an exhibition space for paintings, photography and other art using wild Florida as its subject matter (in other words, artists’ depictions of what the Wildlife Corridor Foundation is working for).  It’s also an educational center, with talks, workshops and more focused on the conservation of wild Florida habitat, its hows, its wheres and – most especially – its whys.
