He wasn’t the type to believe in anything he couldn’t touch, count, or Google. Movies were fake, TV was nonsense, even sports were “just a show.” He drove for Uber and Postmates because it was simple: the app pings, he picks up food, he drops it at a real address for a real person. Logical. Clean. No mystery.
Then came the KFC orders.
Late at night, through a Taco Bell/KFC combo down the street, he kept getting the same strange ticket: old-school items most people don’t even remember—20-piece honey wings, popcorn chicken, Chicken Littles, full buckets with sides at prices that made no sense outside an ’80s commercial. The orders were always paid. The address was always the same. But every time he pulled up, walked to the door, and waited… no one came. No lights. No movement. No “thanks.” Just a paid receipt and a growing sense that he was delivering dinner to nobody.
If the dead can’t let go of their favorite comfort food, maybe some cravings really do follow us into the afterlife.
