For Ajike Owens, her small community in Ocala, Florida, supported her young family as her children would regularly play together in a nearby open space. However, that all changed when the “perfect neighbor,” Susan Lorincz, moved in and began harassing the children with slurs, threats, and dozens of 9-11 calls. This continued to escalate until eventually, Susan shot Ajike in cold blood. The tragic killing would garner international attention, and soon, it called into question everything from police response, stand your ground laws, and, of course, racism at large in the United States.
