Surgeon Charged in Ex-Wife's Murder — 8 Years After Divorce | Michael McKee & The Tepe Murders

A Chicago surgeon is now behind bars, charged with murdering his ex-wife and her husband eight years after their divorce.

Michael David McKee, 39, a board-certified vascular surgeon, was arrested in Rockford, Illinois and charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, and Spencer Tepe, 37. The couple was found shot dead inside their Columbus, Ohio home on December 30, 2025. Their children — a 4-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son — were found alive in a separate room, physically unharmed.

McKee and Monique married in August 2015. Seven months later, she was gone. Divorce records show she filed on grounds of incompatibility, paid for a private judge to speed things along, and listed both her engagement ring and wedding band as property she paid for herself. The separation agreement required her to reimburse McKee $1,281.59 — with a 23% interest penalty if she paid late.

She moved on. Met Spencer, a dentist. Got married. Had two kids. Built the life she wanted.

Eight years of silence. Then police say McKee allegedly drove 300 miles from Illinois to Ohio, entered the home without forced entry, and killed them both.

Surveillance footage tracked a vehicle linked to McKee arriving before the murders and leaving after. He was arrested without incident. Police have not released a motive. McKee had no criminal history. One neighbor told reporters she used to talk with him at the pool — called him friendly, normal. Then he was led away in handcuffs.

No one in Monique's family was surprised.
