Robin Dreeke FBI Interview: Profiling Brendan Banfield — The Alleged Mastermind Behind the Au Pair Affair Murders

He was a federal agent. A husband. A father. And according to prosecutors, a calculated killer who spent months building a murder plot designed to look like a home invasion.

Brendan Banfield is on trial for the February 2023 killings of his wife Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan — a stranger prosecutors say was lured to the family's Herndon, Virginia home through a fake fetish profile and groomed to be the fall guy. The au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães, has testified that Banfield shot Ryan, stabbed Christine, and directed her to fire a second shot — all while their four-year-old daughter waited in the basement.

In Part 1 of this special interview, former FBI special agent Robin Dreeke — the former head of the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program — analyzes the behavioral profile of Brendan Banfield. The defense maintains digital forensics show Christine Banfield was the one communicating with Joseph Ryan.
