Brendan Banfield Finally Testifies: His Version of the Affair, the Morning, and Why He Says It's All a Lie

This is what the entire trial has been building toward. Brendan Banfield took the stand today and told the jury his side of the story — directly contradicting nearly everything Juliana Peres Magalhães said when she flipped on him.
Banfield admitted the affair. He told the jury it started in August 2022 on a night when Christine and their daughter were visiting family in New York. He said Juliana was texting him about her dating troubles, showed him screenshots from her app, and pointed out that most of her matches had names like his — Brendan, Brandon, Brennan. He said he didn't stop her advances. But he also said he told her from the beginning: this was just another affair. It wasn't going to change his marriage.
When defense attorney John Carroll asked the central question — did you devise a plan with Juliana to get rid of Christine? — Banfield was emphatic. "No, there was no plan," he said. He called the accusation "absurd" and "absolutely crazy," pointing out their relationship was only six to eight weeks old at that point.
Banfield then walked through the morning of February 24th, 2023 in detail. The work meeting he was excited about. The birthday trip to New York he'd planned with his daughter. Christine wishing him luck from bed. The McDonald's stop. Juliana's stressed phone call. Christine's phone going straight to voicemail. The drive home.
His story and the au pair's story cannot both be true. One of them is lying. Thursday's cross-examination may tell us which one.
