In 1993, the remote town of Antwerp, Australia, became infamous for a terrifying exorcism that went horrifically wrong. What started as concerns for Joan Vollmer’s mental health spiraled into something much darker. Joan’s husband, Ralph, and three of his fanatically religious friends performed an exorcism. For seven days, they tied her down, refused to give her food and water, slapped her, and eventually caused so much pressure on her body that she went into cardiac arrest. But the group stayed in the house with her body for several days, waiting for the miracle of a resurrection.
