In this episode of ECKERD COLLEGE NEWS, Correspondent & WECX station co-manager Maddie Merrick chats with Professor Tim Bransford  about his primate research. He joined the Animal Studies faculty starting in the 2020-2021 academic year. The courses he teaches include but are not limited to Introduction to Animal Studies, Animal Behavior, and Statistics for Animal Studies.
PRIMATE RESEARCH Tim is a primatologist that works with both wild and captive primates, and uses a variety of direct and remote observation methods to answer questions about primate foraging and ranging behavior, ecology, conservation biology, and the human-animal interface. He has worked with a variety of species, including Bornean orangutans, mantled howler monkeys, several lemur species, and multiple species of monkey endemic to West Africa.
👉Outside of Eckerd, Tim enjoys exploring the many ecosystems found around the Tampa Bay area, watching soccer, and playing with his two dogs and two cats.

As a leader within WECX, the college’s student-run radio station, Madeline manages station scheduling, supports major campus events, and hosts weekly live broadcasts, which demonstrates strong communication, organization, and creative skills. In addition to her work at WECX, Madeline serves as an Eckerd College Ambassador, where she guides prospective students and families through campus tours with professionalism, warmth, and a genuine passion for the institution. Her experience also includes roles in childcare, education, and marine science programming, reflecting her commitment to supporting young learners and creating meaningful, engaging experiences. Across her academic and professional pursuits, Madeline is recognized for her reliability, her enthusiasm, and her ability to make a positive impact in every environment she joins!
