Michael Healey’s tender drama The Drawer Boy is onstage through Sunday at The Off-Central, St. Petersburg’s intimate “black box” theater – with just 43 seats, it allows the audience to get right into the thick of things. Joining host Bill DeYoung on Arts Alive! today is the entire cast of The Drawer Boy, Stephen Riordan, Michael Menszycki and Lucas Ethington. Riordan and Menszycki play lifelong friends who have operated a farm together for years. Ethington’s character is a young playwright and actor who arrives to “study” them for a theatrical project about life on a farm.
There are lots of laughs in The Drawer Boy, and plenty of pathos, along with more than a little heartbreak (no spoilers here). These three exceptional actors discuss their initial reactions to the play, their relationships with director Ami Salee, and with each other as they learned to heft the dramatic weight of Healey’s story.
Sunday's show is sold out; check ticket availability for Friday 3/13 and Saturday 3/14.
