Mongolians consider names to be very important. The ner hairlah or naming ceremony for a newborn is taken very seriously. But the name ceremony notwithstanding, Mongolians are not against changing their names later in life if they feel that this will be beneficial. This new name is usually given by a lama and used only within the family.
