On this episode of Big Broadway Energy, host Stephen Riordan sits down with playwright and performer Janice Creneti to talk about her deeply personal one-woman show, My Year of Saying No—opening this Saturday, April 25, at The Off Central.

Janice shares the origin story behind the piece, which began as a rapid-fire creative response to burnout during the first year of COVID. What emerged is a moving and often humorous exploration of reclaiming boundaries, identity, and self-worth through the simple—but transformative—act of saying “no.”

The conversation dives into the evolution of the show from early script to fringe festivals and now its homecoming production in St. Pete as part of Off Central’s new “Think Inside the Box” series—an initiative dedicated to amplifying bold, intimate, and underrepresented stories.

Stephen and Janice also explore the importance of authentic storytelling, the role of vulnerability in art, and how spaces like Off Central and organizations like Powerstories Theatre empower artists to find and use their voice.

With performances running for two weekends only, this is a unique chance to experience a story that resonates far beyond the stage.
