In an interview with the Chief of UNMISS Aviation Samuel Abrokwa said UNMISS swiftly mobilised aviation and medical resources to support national authorities after receiving reports of a possible aircraft crash. The mission redirected a helicopter to the suspected crash site within 30 minutes, placed additional helicopters on standby, and worked closely with the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority through a temporary rescue coordination centre. Abrokwa said the main challenges were identifying the exact crash location and operating in poor weather conditions.
