Julia Franck is an award-winning and bestselling author who was born in Communist East Berlin in 1970. Her latest book 'Worlds Apart' is an autofictional novel, based very much on her diaries in early life. When desperate to escape a childhood of rural poverty, neglect and shame, she became addicted to writing. Aged 13, she left her family and moved to West Berlin.
